JOEL MEYEROWITZ (USA Born 1938)

JOEL MEYEROWITZ

Born New York  6 March 1938

Inspired by Robert Frank, he quit his advertising art director job and began taking black and white street photographs. An early pioneer of colour, he alternated with colour until 1972 when he switched completely to colour.

He is perhaps best known for his images of ground zero after the 9-11 attacks and he is unafraid to use different formats not just the traditional 35mm. His work at Ground Zero was on a 10×8 camera.

His photographs capture the place, the time, the history they are a bridge between art and documentation.
