C&N Assignment 2 – Preparation Part 1

Assignment 2 – Preparation part 1

Photographing the unseen.

Start by doing some reflecting in your learning log. What kinds of subjects might be seen as un-photographable? How might you go about portraying them using photography?

Make a list of at least seven ideas. Try and keep to things you have a personal interest in or curiosity about. Keep a notebook with you at all times and make notes when ideas strike you as interesting.

Now implement one of your ideas. Aim for a tightly edited and visually consistent series of 7–10 images.

Photographing the unseen in my eyes is photographing something that is personal, i.e. personal feeling that are not always manifested in reality. A few examples would be:

  • Grief
  • Faith
  • Memories
  • Regret
  • Nostalgia
  • Depression
  • Pain
  • Loneliness
  • Stress

These themes seemed a little dark and are not all applicable to me at the current time. Themes that I have considered are:

Loneliness

I am living alone in Pattaya Thailand away from my existing friends and family; conducting a long distance relationship with my fiancé. I am naturally a shy and quiet person so going out a building a new circle of friends is hard

Memories / Grief /Nostalgia

This all come together into memories of my Mum, I lost my mum 18 months ago now. I what was quite sudden circumstances – she was ill with cancer to the final deteriotion took everyone by surprise. I was looking to put a set of images together of things that I seen (and perhaps others) in daily life that bring her to the forefront of my mind.

Regrets

Looking back over my life and seeing points where in hindsight I perhaps should have made a different turn.
