Review

I have always been a fan of the original Star Trek TV series and the movies based upon with the original cast. Obviously, some were much better than others as they followed the pattern of odd number poor, even numbers good. And I was there very pleasantly surprised by the 2009 re-boot of the series.

Star Trek Beyond is the 3rd instalment of this rebooted series and in my opinion is far superior to is too predecessors – that is not to say the predecessor were poor. The film has a delightful scripted penned by Simon Pegg, who is doubling up in his roll a Scotty, which very much plays homage to the source material with copying. Pegg is a Trekkie (or is it Trekker?) and comes across in the dialogue and set pieces.

Messers Pine, Quinto and Urban are excellent in recreating the three main leads, Kirk, Spock and McCoy with Simon Pegg and other giving sterling support. The clever scripting by Pegg has created different character dynamics and interactions than are usually portrayed – particular the Spock & McCoy interactions which are the highlight of the film.

Overall the film has a feeling of an old 60’s episode; the sets have that feel even though they are still state of the art modern cinema. Full marks all round for involved I could have walked straight back into the cinema again just to watch Karl Urban performance alone; OK maybe the use of the Beastie Boys as classical music as well…
