The assessor’s comments were encouraging and I was happy they saw my progress through the Unit. They have expressed that should I “continue to study film culture then moving forward, as well as referencing key theorists, we would like to see you begin to explore much more complex concepts within your writing and begin to offer more individual insights and observations. It would also be good to see you utilising your visual photographic skills with the inclusion of more visual examples from the films you are discussing.” This gives food for thought and reflection as I am considering adding more from the moving image in level 2.

Note to Assessors https://petewalker-ocalearninglog.com/note-to-assessors/ Tue, 26 Sep 2017 02:11:08 +0000 http://petewalker-ocalearninglog.com/?p=1873 Read more]]> Dear Assessors,
Thank you for taking the time to evaluate my work.
My learning log is online and can be located at: http://petewalker-ocalearninglog.com/. The blog is in descending date order (standard blog format), however, I have arranged the menu structure so that all posts for coursework and assignments can be accessed easily and review together.

For example, to access each assignment 1, tutor feedback and any revisions done, please click on the assignment 1 in the menu and you will be able to scroll in consecutive order.

There is a separate menu for research and reflections with submenus for reflections on movies and books.

Included in this package are:
• Abound volume containing final versions of assignment 1 through 5
• A bound volume containing printed versions of all 5 tutor reports, an overall course reflection and detailed breakdown of assessment contents

My assigned google drive contains:

• digital versions of assignment 1 through 5
• digital versions of all 5 tutor reports

All 5 assignments have also been emailed to the college on the 15th September for plagiarism checks.

Please note for assessment purposes all coursework and notes are on my blog, there are no hard copies included.

Thank you.
Peter Walker

A brief reflection… https://petewalker-ocalearninglog.com/a-brief-reflection/ Thu, 15 Dec 2016 05:55:22 +0000 http://petewalker-ocalearninglog.com/?p=1193 Read more]]> Today I am having a catch up on my blog; I have been very busy of late with a new job, the additional commuting time and time away for a work training course. Plus I have not had the best environment to work over the last few months too; however, this seems to have rectified now, so I hope to start to make some steps forward.

Although I have been active with the course, the major thing was the submission assignment 2 to my tutor with the least amount of confidence I had for a piece of academic work since I was in high school. This lack of trust also combined a lack of time, and comfortable work environment lead to poor blog housekeeping, such as posting feedback from assignment 1.

You will see in later posts that A2 was a poorly written hotchpotch of ideas, inadequate referencing and typos that made it look like a blindfolded chimpanzee drafted it. However, from a disaster can only come recovery and I have to say a big thank you to my tutor Andrew Conroy for I think going the extra mile and giving me invaluable advice on how to go about reworking the assignment. Andrew also put me in contact with learner support who again talked me through the issues I had with my essay – something I would never have considering doing. Problems in knowing how to write an academic essay weren’t something I thought they would cover; I figured it was more serious stuff like “I was to drop out” or “I need an extension” not just something as mundane as stressing over not know the level for a degree essay.

I have to say I have had doubts over the last week as to whether this is the right course for me but I stick to my decision – it is. I took this course because of my love of cinema and because I wanted to develop my research skills as an academic essay and critical analysis is something that will be much more significant in level 2. I’m happy to be having this issues now – it’s all part of the learning process.
