C&N Assignment 2 – Self Reflection

C&N Assignment 2 – Self Reflection

Demonstration of technical and Visual Skills

Still-life isn’t normal subject matter for me, so I was a leap into the unknown. I purchased a small lightbox here in Pattaya to allow me to get even lighting on the subjects.

Technically, I’m happy with the images. They are sharp and well exposed and have achieved the look I wanted. I had to improvise on my original idea for the 60,000baht. That would over a GBP1000 so it was impractical to have that amount of cash and photoshop will not allow the editing of recognisable Banknotes. So instead of a fan of notes, I produced a “contact sheet” of the image for one second duplicated in Lightroom. The image for a life was created in Photoshop sampling the background colour from the other images.

Quality of outcome

Again I am happy with this digital presentation of the assignment. The images are presented consistently. Think they will look better as a printed submission

Demonstration of creativity

Context and Narrative continues to challenge me. Constructing a series of images on a theme is very new to me. My tutor encouraged me to look at this assignment from the point of view of truth. The beginning of this assignment was hard trying to find an appropriate subject. Then it came to me about buying extra time – this came from an incident that illustrated the fragility of life.

Symbolism is important and I have tried to work in Barthes by trying to use titles which relay rather than an anchor. Although, they relay the meaning of the individual images they perhaps cause the image set to be anchored to my concept. Not allowing the audience room to imagine.
